PRAYER FOCUS

Prayer.JPG

This Sunday is Trinity Sunday (Matthew 28:16 - 20)

A metaphor for displaying the connectedness between the three elements, the Father, Son and Holy Spirit is the sun. The sun is 150 million kilometres away from us but the rays are coming through the window and together they provide the warmth we feel. God being the Sun, Jesus being the rays sent out and the Holy Spirit is the warmth generated by both God and Son. Despite all of the learning and metaphors linked to the Holy Trinity, its mystery requires an act of faith on our part.

LEADERSHIP REPORT - Ginaya Yarnold, Donna Sprague and Kate de Bressac

Dear Parents and Carers

National Sorry Day

On Wednesday we recognised National Sorry Day at St Agnes’ School. Sorry Day is a particularly important time to remember the injustices to people of the Stolen Generations, who were forcibly removed from their families and communities. Sorry Day encourages people to share the steps towards healing. National Reconciliation Week (27 May - 3 June) follows on from Sorry Day and provides a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the unique culture and history of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

As we remember and acknowledge the mistreatment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, may our recognition of our history sharpen our focus on the now. Now is the time to shape our future. Now is the time to make a new history. Students began the week with whole school prayer led by the CAPA team acknowledging Sorry Day and participated in learning about the importance of this message and will continue to do so into next week.

Sacrament Of Penance

Harley Cadden, Summer Baker, Declan McWhirter, Luke Stevens, Ava Schneider, Arliah Morris, Darcie Gleeson, Aaron Cotovich and Corbin Robinson all travelled to Grafton this week to represent the Hastings Zone at the Diocese of Lismore Cross Country event. The school is very proud of them for making it to this level, and we know that they gave their all.

Congratulations to Arliah Morris and Aaron Cotovich who will now represent the Lismore Diocese at the Polding event held at Eastern Creek in Sydney on 8 June.

Golf

Our first golf sessions were a success this week. We thank James Single from Port Macquarie Golf Club for his expertise and time.

Diocese of Lismore Rugby Union Gala Day

Our Year 5 and 6 Rugby Union side have shown a commendable commitment to their preparation and have been training most days at lunchtimes with Mr Brazel and Mr Shane Joyce. The gala day is next Thursday 3 June and the team is coming together well. We thank Shane for giving up his time to help out with the team.

Athletics Carnival

Our athletics Carnival draws nearer. This is a big event in the school sporting calendar and we look forward to welcoming parents to this event. We will release details around Covid-19 Protocols closer to the event.

Discus trials will be held at the MacKillop College oval discus pit on Thursday 17 June at 3:45pm. 1500m trials will be held in weeks 8 and 9 during school lunchtimes.

Notes for all of these events will be sent home soon.

If you are interested in helping out with any of our sporting pursuits, please contact craig.brazel@lism.catholic.edu.au. Parental involvement is a wonderful way to build school and family connections, and we encourage partnerships of this nature. We have a wonderful parent community that has a wealth of expertise that we could use to increase our students participation in physical activities. However, expertise is not a prerequisite for getting involved; an extra set of hands is always useful!

Does your child want to play Rugby Union? All Port Macquarie Junior Rugby Union clubs (Hastings Valley Vikings, Port Pirates, Port Macquarie Hogs) are looking for players in the U10s (children turning 9 and 10 this year) and the U12s (Children turning 11 and 12 this year). This is open to both boys and girls. Games are held at the same time at Stuart Park on a Friday night. Contact craig.brazel@lism.catholic.edu.au if you have any questions.

Do you have a junior sporting team that requires players? Are you part of a sporting club that is looking to increase numbers and promote your organisation? Do you have a child that wants to join a team or play a sport, but don’t know where to start? Do you have an adult team that requires players and want to put the word out to our parent community? If the answer is ‘yes’ to any of these questions, then please send an email to craig.brazel@lism.catholic.edu.au explaining what you require.
