Palm Sunday - 28 March 2021
Palm Sunday is the first day of Holy Week, a seven-day span that culminates the day before Easter Sunday. The feast commemorates Jesus’ triumphant arrival in the city of Jerusalem for Passover, where he was greeted by a crowd of people laying palm branches at his feet. According to Christianity.com, his welcomers hoped that Jesus would overthrow the Roman government in Jerusalem. They shouted, “Hosanna to the Son of David,” “Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord,” “Blessed is the king of Israel," and other words of praise.
OUR VISION
To be witnesses of Christ's love: In faith, culture, educational excellence and hope for the future.
OUR MISSION
St Agnes' as a Parish School community is committed to:
- Modelling the life and teachings of Jesus based on our Catholic Tradition
- The development of a culture founded on respect and nourished through the continued building of relationships
- Creating a welcoming, friendly and safe environment, where life and growth is recognised and celebrated
- Encouraging and challenging all to achieve their personal best by fostering positive attitudes to learning and catering for individual differences
- Preparing individuals with skills, knowledge and values to live successfully today and into the future
Dear Parents and Carers
What a week of community spirit we have had. Thank you so much to all of our families for their support, quick response to our communications and for checking in on each other, throughout this difficult time for our community.
People have been asking how they can help those impacted by flooding.
The St Agnes' Catholic Parish Schools Flood Relief are currently coordinating collection of goods to support families. We will be having an 'Out of Uniform Day' on Tuesday 30 March to collect goods. Our school has been allocated Spreads - e.g Vegemite, Peanut Butter, Jam, etc. We ask that students please bring one of these items on Tuesday next week. If you are looking to donate further, please click on the following link St Agnes' Catholic Parish Giving - Giving (stagnesparish.org.au)
We thank you for your support of this flood relief initiative.
During the week we were able to make contact with each of our families to see if any of them needed support. We are aware of the serious impact from flooding for several members of our community. During these conversations we were grateful for the offers of help extended to others in the community. Whilst we are making arrangements for assistance to some of these families, please don’t hesitate to contact us if you require help.
Changes To Carpark Pick Up
We have so many parents arriving early for carpark pick up, that at times the drive through loop can be full by 2:10pm. This can be dangerous having cars in the area when the students are bringing the bins up for emptying. To ensure the safety of everyone, we will be placing cones and a barrier across the driveway, up near the old Joprim building. These will stay in place until the students are safely in place for carpark pick up to begin. These new arrangements will begin on Monday.
Change Of NAPLAN Practice Test Dates
Due to the impact of the recent flooding we have postponed the trial NAPLAN tests until next Wednesday 31 March. Students in Year 3 and 5 will participate in these practice tests in preparation for NAPLAN in May.
NAPLAN General Information
Welcome to Jacinda - Practicum Student in 4NS
Today we welcomed Jacinda Avery-Flack to the St Agnes’ community for her lead in days, prior to the commencement of her practicum placement at the beginning of Term 2.
Each day next week staff and students will be involved in a variety of activities to highlight the importance of each day during Holy Week. We thank Year 6 for organising prayer opportunities to support student learning and faith formation.
Stations of the Cross Community event is being held at MacKillop College on Good Friday 2 April at 10:00am. A note went home this week inviting students to be involved in this ceremony. Please return this note and permission slip by Monday 29 March. Students from St Agnes’ Primary participating in this reenactment are asked to arrive at the College Hall by 9:30am.
Baptism
Tyler, Isiah and Makayla Diskson were baptised in the Catholic Church last weekend. We congratulate and welcome them as members of our faith community.
Pupil Free Day
The last day of school for Term One is Thursday 1 April. Please be aware that Monday 19 April is a pupil free day for staff development and that school will resume for all students on Tuesday 20 April.
- It was beautiful to watch our primary students helping younger grades with handball games before school this week when so many of our students were at home due to flooding.
- Leon Doyle in Kinder reminded us of God in our lives as he prayed his lunch time prayer quietly during Lunch One as the teacher prayed a different one to Mr Jones before they were dismissed for lunch.
- Having family and community members offering to help others in need in response to the impact of the floods.

An Aggies Legend
Bianca Harrison places at Polding Swimming and qualifies for PSSA!
This is an incredible story. Bianca Harrison from Year 5 had qualified for the Polding swimming carnival that was held on Monday, in Sydney. With the flood situation as it was, Bianca was unable to make the drive to Sydney. It would have been easy and understandable for Bianca and her family to resign themselves to the fact that they just weren't going to be able to make it this year. But it takes more than a once in 100 year flood to stop this girl. Bianca’s mother got her to Coffs Harbour, where she boarded a plane, by herself, and flew to Sydney on Sunday. There, she was met by her father, who happened to be working out west at the time and made the mad dash to meet her. Bianca was able to attend the event.
The result? A 4th in the Breaststroke, and a 3rd in the freestyle, qualifying her to compete in the PSAA carnival later this year! The staff and limited number of students at school on Monday were able to cheer her on, watching the live stream with all the intensity of an olympic final.
The only ones more proud of Bianca than her school, are her family. Great work Bianca! We are all behind you in the next step of your exciting journey!
Luke Stevens - Diver Extraordinaire!
Congratulations to Luke Stevens who is through to the Polding Diving event that will be held in Sydney next week. We wish him the very best of luck as he strives for success at this elite level. Luke also qualified to trial for Soccer at the Diocesan Winter Sports Trials which will now be held on the same day. He had to make a difficult decision between the two sports. As disappointing as this was, Luke can be very proud of the resilience he showed in this moment. We wish him the best of luck.
