In Sunday’s Gospel reading (Luke 6:27 - 38) for the seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time, the focus is on mercy. Jesus offers a whole series of instructions to his disciples on how they should treat others. He asks them to love, do good, bless, and pray for those who hate, curse, and mistreat them. This message is a constant focus for each of us who belong to our Catholic School Community.
Dear Parents and Carers
What a Week Three at St Agnes’! We love the smiling faces entering the school grounds in the morning and the waves to staff and friends on the way out of the school grounds. Kindergarten children have joined our community so beautifully, settling in well to their new routines. Similarly we are proud of the older students who come into school with such great manners in the morning, asking how staff are and wishing them a happy day. It is a pleasure to watch Kinder interact with their Year Six Buddies. We appreciate their patience and kindness towards our little people. Thanks to those families who are supporting their students to be well presented in their new uniform and following school policy regarding hairstyles and correct jewellery right from the start of the year.
Random Acts Of Kindness Day

Yesterday we celebrated ‘Random acts of Kindness Day’ through in class activities and staff wearing ‘Be Kind’ t-shirts. So far a new record has been set at school for the most number of dojos given out to students by Week Three. Congratulations to all students for trying so hard to follow our 4R’s of being Respectful, Responsible, Resilient and Resolute (and being kind to others) to achieve this record.
School Mass
Next week, we will celebrate the start of the 2022 school year with a Liturgy for Infants, and a Mass and Year Six Leader Badge Ceremony for our Primary students. A note will be coming home today for the parents of our Year Six SRC members and House Leaders.
We look forward to being able to invite all of our families to join us for celebrations in the future.
Each year staff set goals for our school community. This year staff will be working in three groups to lead improvements in the areas of Faith, Learning and Teaching, and Family/School Partnerships. Our Year Six Student Representative Council have also elected to support us in each of these focus areas. The SRC currently meet twice a week at lunch times to discuss goals and actions to lead their peers and have arranged meetings with the staff leader in each of these areas.
GOAL 1
Faith or Mission: To increase staff and student understanding of social justice, through the foundational values, with Jesus Christ at the centre.
GOAL 2
Learning and Teaching: To improve student outcomes through evidence based practice.
GOAL 3
Family/School Partnerships: To increase opportunities for families to engage with the St Agnes’ community.
We will share more about these goals in the coming weeks. We are so lucky to have the students working with us on school improvement.
Quotes from our students
KINDER:
“Mum, that is Mr Kye, he is the man who lives in the hall”.
“I love my big buddy”.
YEAR TWO:
“ Mrs De, you only know that because you are old!”
YEAR FIVE:
“When men are sick, they get like sick, sick!”
Sacrament of Penance
The Sacrament of Penance is one of the seven sacraments of the Catholic Church. Through this process, a person is reconciled with the Church and continues to live as a disciple of Jesus Christ.
Reconciliation is officially called the Sacrament of Penance. In the past, it was also called Confession. These titles are all aspects of the meaning of the Sacrament.
The Sacrament of Penance is a celebration of God’s love and mercy. It celebrates the call to repentance after a process of conversion of heart.
This includes confessing our sins and receiving the forgiveness of God through the ministry of the priest. Through this process, a person is reconciled with the Church and continues to live as a disciple of Jesus Christ.
This year the Sacrament of Penance is offered in the St Agnes’ Parish to catholic students in Years Four and above (who may have missed the opportunity previously). All students in the grade will be involved in the learning about Penance in class. More information will be sent to students involved with the process of registering, times and dates for workshops and the sacrament itself.
From next week you will notice some changes to our sign in/out register. It will ask you to tick which type of appointment your child is attending. For example, medical appointments and hair appointments are a different leave code on the roll and it’s important we have accurate information as the roll is a legal document.
All new and existing parents are welcome at our P&F Meeting on Monday night via Zoom. We would love to have you there!

St Agnes’ Parish Friday Night Rugby
A huge thank you to all families who have expressed an interest in playing Rugby Union for either the school or the parish on a Friday night. We will be in contact shortly to advise of registration and other details. We are aiming to get at least one team into both the U10s and U12s and possibly U8s if there is enough interest. At this stage, the plan is to enter these teams under the existing Hogs teams structure that is already established as part of the competition.
Please let craig.brazel@lism.catholic.edu.au know if your child is interested in playing in these teams. This is a wonderful and inclusive competition and no playing experience is necessary. Games are held at the same time and the same venue on a Friday night. Both boys and girls are encouraged to play. Parent help coaching and managing teams would also be appreciated. Coaches and managers will be highly supported by the Port Macquarie Junior Rugby Union Club. The competition kicks off on the first week of Term 2, and there will also be some introductory sessions for new players run by the NSWRU.
St Joseph’s Primary School and St Peter’s Primary school are also canvassing for players.
