Principal Message

Dear Parents and Carers

I would like to extend a sincere thank you to all our parents and caregivers who engaged so thoughtfully in our Learning Conversations this week. Your presence and active participation made these interviews incredibly valuable, reinforcing the strong partnership between home and school.

These conversations are truly beneficial for everyone involved:

  • For our Students: They gain a clearer understanding of their progress, celebrate their achievements, and actively contribute to setting meaningful goals for future growth. Knowing that their teachers and parents are working together empowers them to take greater ownership of their learning journey.
  • For our Parents: You receive invaluable insights into your child's strengths, areas for development, and the specific strategies being used in the classroom. This shared understanding strengthens your ability to support their learning at home and reinforces the vital home-school connection.
  • For our Teachers: These discussions provide a deeper understanding of each student's unique needs, home context, and aspirations. They are crucial for collaborative goal setting, tailoring instruction more effectively, and further strengthening the vital partnership we share with you in your child's education.

Thank you once again for your commitment to your child's learning and for making these conversations such a success. We look forward to seeing the positive impact of this shared engagement.

Upcoming Road Works - Boronia, Heather, Morton and Hindman Streets

The council and contractors have attempted a number of times this year to complete the annual Road Resealing Program, however due to wet weather this hasn't been able to commence.

Next Tuesday to Thursday the road resealing is scheduled for Heather, Morton and Hindman Streets.

Access along these roads will be reduced to one lane while works are taking place and will be under traffic control with a speed limit of 40km/h. We ask road users to observe all signage and to travel with care through the road works area.

A reminder to families that the staff car park is for use of car park drop off and pick up only. If you are walking your children in or out of school, this is to be done via our front gates to ensure the safety of everyone.

Enjoy the Long Weekend!

As we head into the long weekend, we extend our warmest wishes to all our families for a safe, restful, and enjoyable time.

As we transition into winter, a time for slowing down and embracing indoor comforts, I hope you find moments to reflect, perhaps curling up with a good book, cuddling with your child, or enjoying warming soup and hot chocolate. May this season allow you to pause, take stock, and feel refreshed, ready to re-emerge in the spring.

We also want to extend a sincere thank you for your understanding and support regarding the Professional Learning Day this Tuesday coming. This dedicated time will allow our staff to gather for professional learning and address our School Improvement Plan under our Mission focus: Formation opportunities for staff to support the needs of all to strengthen our Catholic Identity. Your flexibility enables our staff to continue developing, ultimately enriching themselves in the Mission of our faith and better assist them in creating a classroom that enables a Christ-centred learning environment for our children.

Enjoy the extended break, and we look forward to seeing everyone refreshed on Wednesday!

Peace be with You

Brendan Kiely
Principal (Acting)

Assistant Principal - Mission

St Vincent de Paul - Winter Appeal

We are looking forward to supporting others in our community in need this winter through providing warm clothing and monetary donations which will be put towards buying sleeping bags for the homeless. The SRC will be promoting this around the school in readiness for our day of wearing our warmest clothes on Friday 4 July.

Catholic Schools Week

We will be celebrating Catholic Schools Week in Week 9 of this term. During that week we invite families to join us celebrate Mass on Wednesday at 12:30pm

The Jubilee Boat of Hope will be in our parish for a few weeks and at our school for our mass.

Year 4 - School Prayer

On Wednesday, Year 4 students presented school prayer based on the Sacrament of First Holy Communion ceremonies over the past few weeks. They celebrated this achievement with families who were able to attend and a party including all of the grade in recognition of the support of all classmates and the staff that prepared them. We are grateful to Fathers Paul, Prodencio and Alejo who each celebrated one of the sacramental opportunities, to Vanessa Denham who organises ‘all things sacrament’, our staff who attended in support of the candidates and our families who ensured commitment to ensuring their child becomes a full member of the church in completing their First Holy Communion. Year 4 candidates were then able to receive Jesus’ body during their Grade Mass at Christ the King Chapel on Thursday.

Glow

Our Year 6 Faith Formation experience for all students in our Hastings Cluster has been rescheduled from Tuesday 27 May to Friday 20 June. The same outline, requirements and bus times apply as previously. This is a wonderful opportunity for each child in Year 6 to not only deepen their faith, but gather with students from other schools they may work with in Year 7 at their future high schools.  If you haven't already consented for your child to attend please do so ASAP.

Tell Them From Me Survey

Students in Years 4, 5 and 6 completed their Tell Them From Me Survey this week. Thank you to those family members who completed the online survey. We look forward to receiving the results of staff, student and family surveys to inform our current reality and future goals to improve learning, faith and well being outcomes for our school community.

No Phones At School

Phones are not to be used by students throughout the day. Therefore students who bring phones to school for family reasons and contacting parents on the way to or from school must hand them in at the office on arrival at school and collect them before they leave for home.

Police Visit

On Wednmesday, Senior Constable Steve Jeffrey spoke at school regarding keeping safe at school, at home and in the community.  He reinforced the importance of bus safety, walking safely across the road and stranger danger. ‘Policeman Steve’ shared our zero tolerance for physical aggression at school and in the community and the importance of respecting other people and resources. He also covered bullying in all forms including cyber bullying and the importance of communicating vital information with families and school staff if they experience issues that make them feel unsafe or uncomfortable. Please discuss the messages he shared with your child to reinforce their need to be safe, respectful and responsible citizens.

Uniform Expectations

Now that winter is here it is important to continue the high standard of uniform our students have focused on since the beginning of the year. This includes the correct school jumper and or jacket. Again can you please label each of these items of clothing as they are expensive to replace if your child takes it off and leaves it somewhere. If it is labelled, you have a better chance of it returning to you. A reminder that all students should wear their hair tied back neat and tidy if it is to their shoulders or in their face.

No Pets Allowed

The Companion Animals Act 1998 (NSW) prohibits dogs from being on school premises. Please do not bring your pets to school.

Assistant Principal - Learning and Teaching

Learning Conversations- Thankyou!

We would like to say our sincere thank you to our parents and teachers for the partnership that we witnessed this week. It was wonderful to hear the buzz in the hall as you all engaged in these important learning conversations. A huge thank you to our staff for all of their efforts, organisations and preparation. These are an important part of reporting to parents.

Aggies Connects: Kindergarten Come Read with Me

Next week brings the beginning of the Kindergarten families Come Read with Me Sessions. These are going to be a wonderful hands on experience that will help families get the most out of reading at home with their child. We strongly encourage you to attend one of the sessions. Please know that the multiple time slots mean that the sessions are repeated, to allow families to plan a time that suits them. We have included them close to pick up time, to make it easier for many families. Please contact your class teacher if you are unable to attend and we will try and share the information on Seesaw.

Semester One Reports

Our staff are busy working on the Semester One Reports which will be released to families in Week 10.

2026 Kindergarten Enrolment Process

It has been lovely to have our future 2026 Kindergarten students and their families visit for our information and school tour sessions. We remind all families that Kindergarten 2026 applications close on Friday 13 June 2025.

Mathematics Focus: Number Fluency Update

This term we launched our Number Fluency Program Trial to support the children’s accuracy and fluency in Number. It was a huge amount of work to resource and organise, but all of the early reports from the children is that they really enjoy this time and look forward to it.

Sports News

St Agnes’ is Represented in the NSW PSSA Hockey Championships

Congratulations to Mia B in Year 5, who participated at the NSW PSSA Hockey Championships two weeks ago. Mia showed great determination, braving the weather in Newcastle to compete against some of the top young hockey players from across the state, playing against both Catholic and public school students. The Polding team delivered a strong performance, finishing with three wins, one draw, and one loss. This result placed them in a tie for second in their pool. However, based on points differential, they ultimately finished in third place.

Here is what Mia had to say about her experience:

“My week at the NSWPSSA Hockey Championships in Newcastle got off to a rough start. Torrential rain led to my first-round match against South Coast being abandoned, as the turf was completely waterlogged and the wind was blowing the rain sideways. Our second-round game was played, and we secured a 1-0 win against Sydney North.

Day 2  began early with an 8 AM game against Mackillop, which we unfortunately lost 1-0. We did, however, manage to win our final game of the day against Sydney West 1-0.

Day 3 was important; we had to win both our games to improve our chances of making the finals. After leading for most of the game, we unfortunately drew 1 all with North West Sydney and then beat Hunter 1-0.  All of my games were very close.

It was a nervous wait to see if we would make the top two of our pool to progress to the final four. Unfortunately, we ended up equal second, but were relegated to 3rd place based on goals for and against. It was a fantastic week of hockey! I met some really lovely girls from all over the state, which is what sport is all about. I learned a lot from my coach, and I'm looking forward to trialling again next year.”

Mia B

Congratulations Mia. A huge effort to compete at a championship level in hockey.

Aggies Compete at Diocesan Cross Country in Woolgoolga

Congratulations to Claudia F, Pippa T, Arlow F, Asha G-R, Evie D, Evie E, Dominic R, Ivy G, and Hunter F, who recently represented our school at the Diocesan Cross Country Carnival held in Woolgoolga.

This year’s event faced significant challenges due to persistent rain, with two previous attempts postponed. Originally set to take place in Grafton, the carnival was relocated to an all-weather track in Woolgoolga after the original venue became unfit for use. Despite the disruptions, the event went ahead smoothly.

Our nine athletes earned their place at the carnival by progressing through both school and zone-level trials, ultimately representing the Hastings Zone Team. Each student showed great determination and resilience on the day, tackling their individual races with grit and focus. In addition to their strong performances, all athletes displayed excellent sportsmanship and team spirit, making our school community proud.

Well done to all for your commitment, effort, and positive attitude throughout the cross-country season.

A special congratulations to Evie E and Hunter F, who both delivered exceptional performances by finishing 4th in their respective events at the Diocesan Cross Country Carnival. Their strong finishes have earned them a place at the upcoming Polding Cross Country Carnival. Evie and Hunter will now go on to represent the Lismore Diocese at the Polding Carnival, which will take place at the Sydney International Equestrian Centre on Wednesday 11 June. Competing at this level is a significant milestone, and it highlights not only their individual talent but also the strength of our school’s sporting program.

We are incredibly proud of both runners for reaching this stage and wish them the very best of luck as they prepare for the next level of competition. Go Evie and Hunter!

Aggies Compete at the NSW PSSA Rugby League in Sydney

Congratulations to Kruze D, who proudly represented the Polding team at the NSW PSSA Rugby League Championships held in Sydney this week. Kruze was selected to play in the key position of five-eighth, a testament to his skill, game sense, and consistent performance throughout the selection process.

Reaching the State Championships is no small feat. Kruze advanced through School, Zone, Diocesan, and Polding trials to earn his place on the representative team. This journey highlights not only his talent but also his dedication, resilience, and hard work.

Over three days of competition, Kruze and the Polding team played six pool matches, securing two wins and four losses. Despite the tough competition, Kruze remained focused and determined, making valuable contributions to his team and gaining valuable experience playing against some of the top young rugby league players from across NSW, including those from both State and Catholic school systems. Kruze was named the Best Back of the Polding Team and awarded a game ball.

Kruze was proud of his performance and embraced the opportunity to grow as a player while representing his team with pride. Well done, Kruze, an outstanding achievement and a fantastic example of perseverance and sportsmanship!

Aggies Compete at NSW PSSA AFL Championships

Congratulations to Beau L, who proudly represented the Polding team at the NSW PSSA AFL Championships held in Sydney. This prestigious event brings together some of the most talented young AFL players from across New South Wales, including representatives from both Catholic and State school systems.

Beau competed alongside and against some of the best emerging AFL talent in the state, demonstrating his skill, commitment, and teamwork on the field. As of Thursday afternoon, Beau and his teammates had recorded two wins from their first two matches, and were preparing to face Sydney East in what promised to be another challenging game.

Reaching this level of competition is a remarkable accomplishment. Beau advanced through multiple stages of selection to earn his spot on the Polding team, showcasing not only his ability but also his dedication and perseverance. Playing at the NSW Championship level is a significant milestone in any young athlete’s sporting journey.

We look forward to hearing more about Beau’s experiences at the championships and the final results from the tournament. Well done, Beau!

Polding Winter Sports Trials - Girls’ Rugby Union

Congratulations to Makayla D, Georgia W, and Stella D, who travelled to Sydney to take part in the Girls’ Polding Rugby Union 7s Trials. The trials took place on Friday 16 May, at Santa Sabina College and brought together talented players from across the region, all vying for a spot on the prestigious Polding team.

Our three Aggies girls gave it their all throughout the day, demonstrating excellent teamwork, skill, and resilience on the field. Despite the pressure of competing at such a high level, they remained focused and committed, showcasing their strong tackling, fast running, and strategic play. Their positive attitude and sportsmanship were a credit to both themselves and their school.

A special congratulations goes to Georgia, who stood out to the selectors with her outstanding performance and was successfully chosen to represent the Polding team at the NSW PSSA State Championships.

Two Aggies Students Compete at the NSW PSSA Girls Union 7s Championships

This week, Georgia W and Stella D are proudly representing our school at the NSW PSSA Rugby 7s Championships in Sydney. This event brings together the most talented young female rugby players from across New South Wales, offering an exciting opportunity to compete at a high level and develop their skills even further.

Stella was called up at the last minute as a replacement player and despite the short notice, Stella stepped up to the challenge with enthusiasm and confidence.

We hope both girls enjoyed the fantastic experience and enjoyed the opportunity to play alongside and against some of NSW’s best emerging female rugby players. We look forward to hearing all about their matches, highlights from the championship. Well done, Georgia and Stella, you’ve both done an amazing job representing your school!

New Venue and Date for Diocesan Rugby Union

Rugby Union Update – After two postponements, the Diocesan Rugby Union Trials have now been rescheduled with a new date and venue. The trials will be held on Thursday 12 June at the Wollongbar Alstonville Rugby Club.

Seven students from St Agnes' have earned selection through the Zone trials and will represent our school at this next level of competition. Congratulations and best of luck to Zane B, Jho’Arryn C, Ryan C, Kruze D, Harrison J, and Oliver W as they compete for a place in the upcoming Polding Trials. We’re proud of your achievements so far and wish you all the best in the next stage. Go Aggies!

Aggies to be Represented at the Diocesan Rugby Union Challenge in Coffs Harbour

On Wednesday 18 June, Aggies will compete in the Lismore Diocese Rugby Union Challenge in Coffs Harbour. This exciting event provides our rugby players with the opportunity to showcase their skills in a competitive, full-contact setting. The gala day also acts as a pathway for further competition, with the winning team advancing to compete against other diocesan teams across New South Wales.

To ensure player safety, all participants must wear a mouthguard and appropriate footwear. Wearing headgear is also recommended for extra protection.

We would like to extend a big thank you to Mr Brazel for his dedication and effort in selecting and preparing the team. Good luck, Aggies!

Northern NSW Soccer Gala Day Cancelled

Unfortunately, all sports grounds remain closed under council direction, which has continued to impact plans for the soccer gala day originally scheduled for Term 1. The fields were still unavailable on the rescheduled date of Monday 2 June.

As a result, Northern NSW Soccer has officially announced the cancellation of this year’s gala day. No further date will be set for 2025. They have expressed their appreciation for the strong support shown by schools and are now focusing on planning a school gala day event for next year.

A refund was processed to all accounts this week for those families who had paid for this event.

Stage Three Netball Gala Day - Let’s Go!

On Tuesday 17 June, 98 students from Years 5 and 6 will participate in a full day of netball at the Port Macquarie courts. The event includes both competitive and non-competitive leagues, providing an excellent opportunity for students to either experience netball for the first time or to showcase their existing skills on the court.

Aggies has entered four competitive teams and eight non-competitive teams, making for an exciting and enjoyable day of sport. The competitive league offers a pathway for further success, with the winning team advancing to the regional finals later in the year.

With 12 teams competing on the day, we are seeking support from our school community. If you are interested in helping by managing a team or umpiring, please contact Renee Shaw at the school office or email Drew Wilson at andrew.wilson@lism.catholic.edu. We would greatly appreciate your assistance!

This event is for Stage 3 students only, but a Stage 2 netball gala day has been scheduled for Term 3.

The Port Macquarie PCYC & The PC Hub are joining forces to make a difference in the lives of the Youth in our community

PCYC does incredible work in our community by providing safe, inclusive spaces where young people can grow, learn, and thrive through sport, mentorship, and life skills programs. Their tireless commitment to empowering youth and strengthening community connections makes them a vital force for positive change.

However, they noticed a gap... Youth who aren't particularly sporty were less likely to engage with their programs.
Enter The PC Hub... our shared vision to provide inclusive support programs that empower Youth in their uniqueness for a brighter future made for a natural partnership, but with a twist.

Our goal is to work together to provide a fun and engaging Friday Night program for the more tech-inspired Youth, their friends and family - exposing them to the incredible teams, services and support available at the PCYC.

HOW YOU CAN HELP There are a couple of ways you can support this initiative:

  • Share the files attached in your newsletter and/or social platforms
  • Share the files with your network
  • Invite and come along with clients / families
  • Donate prizes or goodie bag items

Tournament team spots are limited, so registration is essential. It's also helpful to know how many spectators intend to come along so we can cater for them too. All enquiries and registrations can be directed to play@thepchub.au.
