From the Leaders

In this Sunday’s Gospel from Mark, Jesus shares the parable to explain what the Kingdom of God is like. Often Jesus tries to help people understand a situation in a new way by using common experiences that all of his listeners would be able to relate to. He likens the Kingdom of God to a farmer planting his field and waiting to harvest the crop. The farmer plants the seed and takes care of the crops as they grow. They grow with the help of the bountiful food of the earth that comes from God. When we follow Jesus. We become the seeds that God is planting to bring the Kingdom of God more fully into the world.

Winter Woolies

Thanks to all our students who came dressed warmly in their winter woolies for a gold coin donation. We raised $587.50 which will be shared between Sr Marjorie’s Soup Kitchen, ‘Our Place’ at the Youth Hub and St Vincent de Paul to keep others warm this winter.

What Is Justice For The Poor?

Whole school Mission Goal 'Increasing our understanding of social Justice', our next Catholic Social Teaching focus is 'Preferential Option for the Poor'. This means caring for those who are less well off is everyone’s responsibility. Preferential care should be shown to vulnerable and marginalised people, whose needs and rights are given special attention in God’s eyes.

Whilst learning more about this, our students will have a chance to explore their current personal understandings of justice; investigated Church teachings on caring for the poor; related Scripture to their own experiences of love and compassion to consider ways they can live and act with a concern for the poor; and explored how we are all connected in the quest for justice for the poor.

Biggest Morning Tea

We will be hosting a Biggest Morning Tea in conjunction with our Athletics Carnival on Friday 21 June. We encourage families to donate baked goodies for this wonderful cause. Students, staff and visitors can purchase items at Lunch One.

Some of the treats and treasures available from the Craft for Service stall.

Feedback Form - 2025 Excursions and Incursions

At our School Community Forum (SCF) meeting on Wednesday next week, we will be holding a parent consultation process around excursions and incursions. Currently, all grades hold an excursion/incursion each year, with some of the costs already outlined in the Class Packs. We are seeking parent voice on the types of excursions or incursions you would like available to your child. Please note that some camps for senior grades are already locked in for 2025. We understand that not all families are able to attend the meeting times, but we would still love for your voice to be heard in these discussions. Please click on the link below to complete the form and this information will be tabled at the meeting on Wednesday afternoon. We ask that this please be completed by 2:00pm Wednesday so that all information can be collated for the meeting later that afternoon.

Feedback Form

Year 5 Camp

Next week, Year 5 students and staff are travelling to Bonny Hills to the Francis Retreat Centre for their camp/retreat. We are excited to be having special guest appearances from Zac Parnell from the parish and Mrs Kim Post, our resident art teacher joining us for some activities. During the two days, students will have time for connecting with their faith, their role as future leaders in a catholic school and relationship building with staff and peers. We look forward to hearing about their exciting adventures when they return from their sleepover on Thursday 20 June.

Farewell Father Roland

Families wishing to farewell Father Roland Agrisola are welcome to attend the Sunday 9:00am Mass and stay for the morning tea afterwards. Father Roland has been a part of our parish for the past 16 years. St Agnes’ students farewelled him last week at Friday’s School Mass

Sister Marjorie’s Soup Kitchen is moving to the Youth Hub, joining forces with ‘Our Place’ during the school holidays. We look forward to being able to support both of these organisations for the rest of the year.

Sports News

NSW Netball School Cup Gala Day

Thank you to the families who have completed the NSW Netball Gala Day registration process. If you have not yet signed up for Play HQ, please check your Compass notification and complete the registration. We are looking forward to a great day of netball with our year 5 and 6 players. Thank you to Renee, Mr Brazel, Mrs Alchin, Mrs Brazel and Mrs McEntyre for attending the day with our students.

We are seeking any parents or family members who can help on the day. If you could help manage a team or would like to umpire, please email Drew Wilson at andrew.wilson@lism.catholic.edu.au or call Renee in the office at 02 6583 7433.

School Athletics Carnival

Next Friday is our School Athletics Carnival. A lot of work has gone into making the day enjoyable for all students.

We invite all our Aggies community to participate in the day. Please join your children in non-competitive events if you can. On the day, we will also need support from families for timekeeping in the 100m and 200m.

During Lunch One, there will also be an ‘Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea’ event, where families can enjoy a cup of tea and purchase something yummy.

2024 Athletics Program of Events

Diocese Rugby Union Gala Day - Coffs Harbour

On Wednesday, 30 Rugby Union players from Years 5 and 6 travelled to Coffs Harbour for the Lismore Diocese Rugby Union Gala Day. The day was a competitive carnival, with the winner continuing on to play other Dioceses in NSW. Mr Brazel and Mr Behan reported that our players showed up with the right attitude and competed hard in their matches.

Despite facing tough competition and losing by small margins, our students displayed exemplary sportsmanship. They not only congratulated the other teams but also expressed their gratitude to the officials after each match. This Aggies sportsmanship, a trait that has been consistently praised by officials and teachers at various events, is a testament to the values we instil in our students. Our students should take pride in how they represent themselves and their school. Our students even made Channel 7 Nightly News!

Future Dates

Term 2

  • Tuesday 18 June - NSW Netball School’s Cup Years 5 and 6 Gala Day
  • Friday 21 June - School Athletics Carnival
  • Wednesday 24 July - Zone Athletics at St Joseph’s Regional College, Port Macquarie

Positive Behaviour Support

This week we have moved on with a new PBS focus on being Respectful.  I am respectful to my peers at school by making sure that everyone feels included and can join in play. Recently we have had many new families move to our beautiful town and join our school. At St Agnes' we want to make sure that everyone feels included and can join in play. This is important, because even though some students are new, we always have the opportunity to grow new relationships with current students too. Over the next two weeks we are going to focus on respectful and positive relationships and how we can make sure everyone in our school feels accepted and that they feel like they belong, just for being who they are!
