At St Agnes’ School we have derived our teaching and learning outcomes from the NSW English Syllabus K-6. The outcomes and content in the Syllabus are organised into the strands of Talking and Listening, Reading (including Viewing) and Writing (including spelling, handwriting, punctuation and using computers).
In our English programs we aim to develop the skills needed to read widely with understanding and enjoyment; to write grammatically in a variety of written forms; to listen effectively and speak confidently.
Students will also learn to critically assess literature, including print and electronic media. Daily literacy blocks encompass skill development in reading, writing, talking and listening through teacher modelling, shared, guided and individual tasks. Children's progress is monitored regularly by a variety of assessment techniques.
Through the use of interactive whiteboards, computer lessons and classroom laptops, ICT has become an integral part of our English lessons.
